Vision and Partners
The vision for the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area is to restore and steward a living ecological preserve and public education center that conserves habitat, interprets the region’s natural and cultural heritage, and provides year‑round, low‑impact recreation and hands‑on learning for residents and visitors. The site will offer accessible interpretive programming and family‑friendly outdoor experiences for the thousands of national and international guests who come for the Little League World Series and related events; serve as an outdoor laboratory for Lycoming College, Bucknell University, Pennsylvania College of Technology, and high school students through applied ecological research and restoration projects; support the Lycoming Audubon Society in bird monitoring, habitat guidance, and public bird walks; and connect to South Williamsport Recreation Park and the Riverwalk via an integrated trail network to expand recreational access. By providing safe trails, multiuse paths for walking and biking, paddling and seasonal swimming access, and interpretive signage and programs, the Natural Area in the Sylvan Dell will protect important habitat and resources, increase community access to nature, and become a regional destination for conservation‑based recreation and education.
